2027 four-star EDGE recruit Taven Epps decommits from Texas Football
After committing early to Texas back in April, four-star LB Taven Epps has backed off his commitment and has reopened his recruitment.
The first 2027 player to commit to the Texas Longhorns has backed off his pledge and has re-opened his recruitment, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. Four-star EDGE Taven Epps committed to Texas back in April.
The junior from Tustin, CA had been the Longhorns lone 2027 commitment. But after several visits and a bunch of new offers over the summer and fall, Epps wants to explore his options. Georgia, USC, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Alabama are among the schools that made overtures to 6-foot-4, 235-pounder over the past few months.
Epps took visits to the Trojans and the Bulldogs in September. Last month, he made visited OU and the Fighting Irish. A native Texan, he moved to California for what he hoped would be more recruiting exposure. One result of that move is a lot of interest in Epps from USC and Trojans fans.
After his visit to the Southern Cal campus, Epps told Rivals, “It was a cool environment, just everybody telling me how USC is and how I should go there. I have a friend who went there from my high school and he said, ‘Hey man, SC is the place.’ The coaches were cool. They were telling me I would be used like No. 18. They said that’s what we want you to be like. The environment was cool, the coaches were cool, everybody was being cool. … They’re trying to flip me pretty hard. But every school is trying to flip me pretty hard."
