Ben Johnson took unsubtle jab at Troy Aikman’s broadcast comments

While Troy Aikman is one of the best pro football color commentators around, it was hard to ignore how he seemed all too eager to overanalyze the Chicago Bears on Monday night. Aikman's nitpicking of a solid Caleb Williams, in particular, even drew the attention of a famously surly Chicago hot dog stand.

As it turns out, even Bears head coach Ben Johnson is well aware of how Aikman talked about his team after its third-straight win.

In an interview with Bears radio play-by-play announcer Jeff Joniak on Tuesday, Johnson referenced how "a few people weren't particularly pleased with how we're winning right now." To provide himself with relative cover, Johnson didn't single out any specific names for good reason. But it was pretty clear he was referring to Aikman's apparent "displeasure," given how visible and audible the Hall of Fame quarterback is as the lead Monday Night Football analyst, AND given what Johnson said he heard off his living room TV while his children caught up on Chicago's win.

There isn't that many voices to choose from, only Aikman and his partner Joe Buck, if Johnson is noting he heard the critical commentary off a replay of the Bears' win:

Here's Johnson's quote that sounds like a jab at Aikman in full:

"It sounded like, from that game the other night [Monday], a few people weren't particularly pleased with how we're winning right now. I woke up this morning and my kids were watching the second half before school and so I heard some of the commentary."

Let this be a lesson to all you football announcers when it comes to the Bears. Ben Johnson might not be #online as much as you're used to. But he is paying attention. He knows what people are saying about his team, and that could always turn into bulletin-board material for the Bears.
