Charlie Smyth's kicking coach reacts to his last-second game winner
The New Orleans Saints picked up another win against the Carolina Panthers, and Charlie Smyth's kicking coach was thrilled with his game-winner.
Week 15 of the NFL season was a wild one all across the league, and surprisingly, one of the most competitive and hard-fought matchups of the week was in New Orleans. After beating the Carolina Panthers only a few weeks back, it was clear the New Orleans Saints wanted to line things up again for another division-lead-denying victory. With the game going all the way down to the wire as the Saints pulled it back to even at 17 points a piece, International Player Pathway product Charlie Smyth had the opportunity to seal the deal with a 47-yard field goal.
After being iced on the first setup, Smyth was able to drain the clutch field goal, putting the Saints up 20-17 with two seconds remaining, and sealing the deal on what was a highly contested win. This was an amazing opportunity for the young talent to showcase his ability to perform under a ton of pressure, and with the game on the line, he stood strong.
This was much to the delight of his kicking coach, Tadhg Leader, a former rugby union player and placekicker. Following the game, he had some high praise for the Northern Irish product, as can be seen in the post below.
Being with Charlie since the beginning, I always knew this was going over.. cool feeling having such confidence in the lad.

Two odd years remaining patient.
Preparing for the big time opportunity to show what he’s about.
And the lad SMACKED IT ????????????#NFLhttps://t.co/HI9Q70BnE9— Tadhg Leader (@TadhgLeader) December 15, 2025
