Haitian Creole draws heavily from early French dialects, but it’s not just simplified French. Research in Creole linguistics shows that while the vocabulary is mostly French, the grammar reflects significant African influence. If it were just Norman French simplified, that influence wouldn’t be consistently identified. Vocabulary is Frenchbut the structure isn’t purely French.
