In reply to Jeano.

“Hater,” Why? Because you want to retroject Haitians as fighting for US Independence and the noble cause of freedom? Really? You think they were fighting to end slavery? That was the Civil War some 100 years later. There were no Haitian Volunteers fighting in that one. You are free to retro-construct any kind of glory for Haiti you want, I’m just trying to point out that interpreting historical facts to support some kind fictious heroic Haitian involvement in the American Revolution is to overlook some uncomfortable truths. Not even the US war of Independence was the ‘fight for freedom’ many want to recreate it as. It was all about money, power, access to land, capital, manipulation of labor. Understanding these dynamics helps us to seek true independence and avoid being duped by the elites. Deliberately choosing to be remain dumb won’t help anyone but those who are exploiting us, as the volunteers were exploited. I’m wondering if you even know why they bothered going to fight in the first place. I’m guessing you are thinking it was for ideal of “Freedom.” Wondering if you know they lost battle. A Patriate spy betrayed them, they got decimated by the British. Some 25 were killed, 60 captured and sold into Slavery to “Americans.” But don’t let me stand in the way of glorious reconstructions of the past. Just like Haitians today who join the US Military to fight for the Glory of America. Not visa, not pay, that’s secondary. They want to fight for “freedom.” By the way, I’m not picking on Haitians. I’m describing reality for people all of the world. You know who makes up most Armies the world over? I give you a hint, very few are rich, from elite families, or highly educated. Many are not even from the country they are fighting for.
