One of the most significant benefits of playing a relatively light non-conference slate of games is the ability to get a multitude of players into the game and see them go to work. For the Oregon Ducks, that has undoubtedly been the case so far this year, with over 70 players seeing the field so far in both the Week 1 and Week 2 victories over Montana State and Oklahoma State.

In Saturday's 69-3 win over the Cowboys, though, backup quarterback Austin Novosad was not able to see the field in the second half due to an undisclosed injury, and it was Luke Moga who instead got the QB2 reps in the blowout. Novodsad was listed as questionable on the pre-game availability report and ultimately held out of the contest.

On Monday night in his weekly press conference, Dan Lanning provided a positive update on Novosad and his outlook going forward.

"Yeah, more precautionary, probably than anything," Lanning said of holding Novosad out on Saturday. "I think Austin can go, but his lat (latissimus dorsi) has been bothering him a little bit. He's been able to practice, but we're just trying to limit it, limit him, and get him in a position where he'd be able to go again."

So far this season, Dante Moore has done a phenomenal job in the QB1 spot, throwing for over 400 yards and five touchdowns with zero turnovers. Still, in projected blowout games, it is always nice to have a backup QB like Novosad, who is among the most talented QB2s in the nation.

From the sounds of it, Novosad should be in a position where he can contribute in the coming weeks, assuming he continues to progress in the right direction.
