A Haitian couple was found dead in their home in North Carolina on March 12 in what police say is a suspected murder-suicide, the Waxhaw Police Department said

Officers responding to a call around 4:15 p.m. at a residence on Prescott Glen Parkway found Inol Toussaint, 49, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His wife, Euster Toussaint, was found dead inside the home.

Investigators believe Inol Toussaint killed his wife upstairs before going outside and taking his own life, according to the Waxhaw Police Department. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the causes of death.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the case.

Authorities said the deaths appear to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.

“We are heartbroken by this tragic act of domestic violence that has deeply impacted our community,” Police Chief Dexter Wilson said. “We ask everyone to keep the victim’s family and loved ones involved in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.”

Wilson also urged anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help, noting that support resources are available.

Police have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
