Jets need Frank Reich to bring stability to offensive coordinator
The New York Jets need Frank Reich to bring stability to the offensive coordinator position.
The New York Jetshired Frank Reich as their new offensive coordinator. It was the expected outcome.
Reich became the perceived favorite for the position the moment New York head coach Aaron Glenn created a vacancy by parting ways with Tanner Engstrand.
Reich and Glenn were teammates on the 1996 Jets. That team went 1-15.
Reich becomes the Jets' 12th offensive play-caller over a 16-year span. That's ludicrous.
The Jets desperately need him to bring some stability to the offensive coordinator position.
Frank Reich and Aaron Glenn, teammates on the '96 Jets (yeah, the 1-15 season), have remained in touch over the years.

Brian Schottenheimer coordinated the Jets' offense from 2006-11. That's the last time the Jets had an offensive coordinator for more than two seasons. That's equal parts stunning and haunting.
Engstand was the coordinator for the 2025 campaign. Nathaniel Hackett had a two-year run (2023-24) as former quarterback Aaron Rodgers' hand-picked OC. Prior to that, Matt LaFleur coordinated the first two seasons (2021-22) of Robert Saleh's tenure as Jets head coach.
Dowell Loggains ghadot two seasons in 2019-20. Prior to Loggains, the Jets had a pair of one-year castoffs in John Morton (2017) and Jeremy Bates (2018). Chan Gailey had the 2015-16 years, it was Marty Mornhinweg in 2013-14, and Tony Sparano in 2012.
The Jets desperately need consistency and continuity at offensive coordinator. Reich is Glenn's choice. Hopefully Reich lasts longer than two seasons.
History strongly suggests he won't.
