Because the Boston Celtics want to get under the NBA's second tax apron, Jrue Holiday is a prime trade candidate this offseason. He has three years left on his deal, and he'll only get more expensive each year as he ages into his late-30s.
The Celtics may not even care what players they get back as long as it accomplishes this goal. Holiday is aging and not the player he was, but he's still a good player. There are teams that want to improve without giving up assets to do it. One team that fits that bill is the Los Angeles Clippers, who are reportedly interested in him, per MassLive's Brian Robb.
Following the report of LA's interest in Holiday, NBA salary cap expert Yossi Gozlan proposed a three-way trade between the Celtics, Clippers, and Washington Wizards that would get Holiday to Los Angeles and save the Celtics money in the process. The proposed trade is as follows:
Clippers get: Holiday, Xavier Tillman
Celtics get: Kris Dunn, Saddiq Bey, Colby Jones
Wizards get: Bogdan Bogdanovic, Drew Eubanks, No. 28 pick.
New mock offseason: Boston Celtics!
Roster expenses will exceed $500 million if they run it back next season.

A trade like this would save the Celtics $21.1 million, and potentially more outright if they elect to waive and stretch any of these players. Because they are also in the luxury tax, per Gozlan, they would save $130 million.
The best player the Celtics would get in this deal is Dunn, who is a good defender like Holiday is, but not quite at the same level as an overall player. Boston acquired Dunn in 2021, but he never played a game for the team.
