Notre Dame football reveals number changes ahead of 2025 season

Notre Dame football has revealed several number changes ahead of the 2025 season.

The Fighting Irish open the regular season at Miami on Sunday, August 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium (ABC). The Irish own an 18-8-1 mark in the all-time series against the Hurricanes, with the most recent meeting in 2017 (a 41-8 Miami win).

Here are the ND number changes:

Wide receiver Cam Williams: from No. 17 to No. 5Cornerback Christian Gray: from No. 29 to No. 6Safety Tae Johnson: from No. 16 to No. 9Quarterback / Special teams Tyler Buchner: from No. 26 to No. 10Wide receiver Jerome Bettis Jr.: from No. 83 to No. 15Wide receiver Xavier Southall: from No. 80 to No. 31Defensive end Bryce Young: from No. 30 to No. 95

The Irish finished the 2024 season 14-2, including riding a 14-game winning streak into the College Football Playoff national championship game. That success has helped fuel a very strong offseason on the recruiting trail.
