Patriots vs. Giants: New England holds 33-15 lead in fourth quarter

For the first time since 2022, the New England Patriots are set to host Monday Night Football as they welcome the New York Giants to Gillette Stadium.

In the midst of nine straight victories, the Patriots will look to extend their streak to 10 heading into a much-needed bye week. But, the two-win Giants will not go down without a fight: rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is back under center and a talented pass rush will look to take advantage of a beat-up New England offensive line.

Follow along live throughout from Monday night through Monday night’s contest.

Live score: Patriots 33 : 15 Giants

Monday, Dec. 1, 8:15 p.m. ET | Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA | Broadcast information | Inactives | Game day roster

First Quarter

The Giants won the coin toss and deferred, putting Drake Maye and the Patriots offense on the field first. A 39-yard kick return by Terrell Jennings started the offense just shy of midfield, where a pair of first downs then found the unit in the red zone. Maye then delivered a tight window throw over the middle to Hunter Henry on third-down to set-up a goal-to-go situation — where a following third-down pass to Stefon Diggs fell incomplete. Andy Borregales’ 22-yard field goal was then good. [Patriots 3 : 0 Giants]

New York picked up a first-down through the air on their first offensive possession, but then faced a third-and-9 after a Harold Landry sack that saw Dart’s short pass complete to Wan’Dale Robinson but short of the chains. A Giants punt to Marcus Jones then resulted in the All-Pro returner taking it 94 yards the other way for a touchdown. [Patriots 10 : 0 Giants]

Quickly finding themselves down 10 points, a second-down scramble by Dart along the sideline saw Christian Elliss send the QB flying with a legal hit — which the Giants responded too after the play to draw a 15-yard penally. A third-down incompletion then led to another punt.

Back with the ball, New England needed just three plays to pick up a pair of first downs and move across midfield. A play-action pass then freed a wide open Hunter Henry on a sail route whom Maye hit in stride for a 36-yard completion. One play later, a fade route to Kayshon Boutte resulted in a three-yard touchdown. [Patriots 17 : 0 Giants]

Second Quarter

Facing a third-and-3 to start the second quarter, a handoff up the gut to Devin Singletary picked up eight yards to get the Giants into New England territory. Two more runs to the back then set up a following third-and-8, where Dart’s pass down the right sideline to Theo Johnson drew a helmet-to-helmet penalty on Jaylinn Hawkins. New England’s aggressive pressure look then got burned, as Dart got a ball out quick to Darius Slayton who took it 30 yards for a touchdown. [Patriots 17 : 7 Giants]

Back up 10, New England faced a third-and-1 where Maye dropped back to pass before trying to reach the line to gain with his legs — which was stopped short by Abdul Carter.

A 22-yard punt by Bryce Baringer started the Giants drive at their own 44-yard line. Going back to the ground game, Singletary converted a third-down before breaking a 13-yard run to move into New England territory. An illegal man downfield penalty on a late pass from Dart set the unit behind the chains, where a third-and-10 pass into the end zone fell incomplete with Jaylinn Hawkins in coverage. Younghoe Koo then could not get off a 46-yard field goal with his kicking foot missing the ball as his footwork appeared off.

New England then took over with good field position themselves at their own 42-yard line. Back-to-back runs for TreVeyon Henderson picked up a pair of first downs and 23 total yards. A run stuff and holding call on Garrett Bradbury set the offense backwards, but the unit overcame it as Maye eventually found Kyle Williams for a pretty 33-yard touchdown. [Patriots 24 : 7 Giants]

A big hit on the ensuing kickoff by Marte Mapu and Christian Elliss resulted in a fumble that New England recovered. Set-up at the 27-yard line and working inside the red zone, New England faced a third-and-5 where a pass to Henry was broken up. Andy Borregales’ 30-yard field goal was good. [Patriots 27 : 7 Giants]

Trailing by 20 with 1:42 left in the half, Dart faced a third-and-5 where his jump pass under pressure was complete but short of the sticks. Appearing to keep the offense on the field at their own 40-yard line, Dart tried a hard count which New England did not jump on leading to a punt.

Looking to extend their lead with 1:07 remaining in the half and one timeout, Maye hit a chunk gain to DeMario Douglas over the middle for 15 yards before a busted coverage resulted in a 36-yard catch-and-run to Rhamondre Stevenson. Inside the red zone, one short completion led to another field goal by Andy Borregales with two seconds remaining. [Patriots 30 : 7 Giants]

Third Quarter

The Giants started the second half with the ball and hit a chunk gain through the air to Theo Johnson for 18 yards to get the offense moving. Over midfield, New York kept the offense on the field on fourth-and-6 but New England’s defense held as Dart’s pass over the middle fell incomplete with Marte Mapu tight in man coverage.

New England’s first drive of the second half opened in a third-and-7 situation, where Maye escaped the pocket to his left and outran Abdul Carter to the edge to make the line to gain. After back-to-back run stuffs when the offense needed just one yard, the offense stayed on the field on fourth-and-6 and Maye found Stefon Diggs to move the chains. Then facing a third-and-12, a short pass underneath to Henderson fell incomplete. Andy Borregales’ 45-yard field goal was then no good wide left — which the Giants were credited with a block.

Fourth Quarter

New York’s run game methodically moved them into New England territory. Just outside of the red zone, a direct snap to Devin Singletary saw the back take it 22 yards for a touchdown. A two-point conversion attempt was then successful as Dart bought plenty of time before finding Slayton. [Patriots 30 : 15 Giants]

Finding themselves in a two-score game, a play-action bootleg to Hunter Henry started the Patriots drive with a 20-yard gain. Moving over midfield after a 12-yard screen to Henderson, Maye was then brought down for a sack forcing a third-and-12 — where a dump off to Stevenson picked up just four yards. New England then punted.

The Giants offense took the field backed up inside their own 15 and Dart was able to convert an opening third-and-short with his legs. After a deep incompletion with Christian Gonzalez recording a breakup, Dart escaped the pocket on third-and-10 and could not find an open receiver as he picked up just two yards before going out of bounds. New York then punted with less than eight minutes remaining.

A second-down run by TreVeyon Henderson saw the speedster break free for a 26-yard explosive to move New England back into Giants territory. A touchdown to Hunter Henry was then negated due to offsetting penalties, but the Patriots still moved things into the red zone before facing a third-and-7 — where Maye went back to Henry for a first-down. Then facing a third-and-goal after a second-down incompletion to stop the clock, Maye’s scramble gained just two yards leading to another short field goal. [Patriots 33 : 15 Giants]
