A 20-year-old woman has become the youngest person to complete all seven major marathons and be awarded a Seven Star Medal, Abbott World Marathon Majors said.

Lucy Scott from Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, has been honoured after running marathons over the past 18 months in Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York City and Sydney.

Abbott World Marathon Majors said Ms Scott, who is studying history at the University of Nottingham, became the "youngest seven-star athlete" after she completed the New York City Marathon on 2 November.

Ms Scott said she started running in 2024, adding: "It's the best thing I've ever done."

The Six Star Medal was introduced by the Abbott World Marathon Majors in 2016 to honor the runners who completed the original six major marathons, with Sydney being added as the seventh major in November 2024.

Ms Scott said she started running during her first year at university and had no previous experience.

She ran the TCS London Marathon in 2024 and raised £7,685 for The Essex Disabled Sport Foundation.

She added she was inspired to take up the sport by her father, John Scott, who had been aiming to obtain the Six Star Medal before the Covid pandemic.

However due to injury he had to stop running, missing out on taking part in the Tokyo and Boston marathons.

Ms Scott has since followed in her dad's footsteps and she said her parents have travelled the world to support and cheer her on at each race.

"I think they've loved the experience as much as I have," she added.

Ms Scott said she planned to complete her third London Marathon in April 2026, adding: "If I can balance university and fundraising."

She hoped to gain a Nine Star Medal, a future award being considered by Abbott World Marathon Majors, which would include Cape Town and Shanghai marathons.

"If I can get a place, I would love to do that," she added.
