Tennessee Titans must address 2024 woes in 2025 NFL draft: Red zone efficiency

As the Tennessee Titans head into the 2025 NFL draft, it's a good time to quickly review the 2024 season and see how they ended up with the No. 1 selection.

The Titans had many issues. Between a porous rush defense, miserable special teams, and an underperforming offensive line, it is hard to believe they were as competitive as they were in most contests.

But one statistic speaks volumes about what went wrong: their red zone efficiency.

The Titans struggled in the red zone last season for many different reasons. Their quarterback play was erratic, the offensive line was inconsistent, and they struggled to maintain flow. At times, the play-calling was suspect, leading to Tennessee being the 10th-worst team in the league in the red zone, finishing at a 53.3 percent touchdown rate.

The Titans had weapons, but the struggles were real.

Heading into the draft, Tennessee had already addressed one of its major issues: the offensive line. By adding two new starters, Dan Moore and Kevin Zeitler, the line play should improve and help improve those numbers. Now, they must add to their arsenal of weapons, especially after losing Nick Westbrook-Ikhine to the Miami Dolphins.

If they follow through and draft Cam Ward at No. 1, this could help solidify the quarterback position. While he will be a rookie and there will be growing pains, he has the upside to develop into something special. For Ward to succeed, the Titans must add weapons to the offense opposite Calvin Ridley.

Tennessee signed Van Jefferson in free agency, but they need more than that and will address the wide receiver position at some point in the draft. If they don’t fill some holes, they will likely struggle in the red zone in 2025. But if they can add some playmakers, they should be poised to improve on an area that held them back in 2024.
