Twoubadou Lakay closes Ayti Mizik residency with tribute to Haiti troubadour music genre

The group, formed last November to study and perform the music of legendary singer and band leader Coupé Cloué during what would have been the Haitian music legend’s 100th year, brought together a rotating collective of Haitian musicians and guest artists throughout the residency.
Band manager, Gary Sylvain said the residency highlighted music from Ti Paris, Robert Molin and Tabou Combo, along with original work inspired by Haiti’s troubadour music, a traditional roots genre known for its acoustic sound and storytelling. Audience members responded throughout the night with applause and sing-alongs as musicians performed classic original songs and shared stories behind the music.
