When will the Commanders have Sam Cosmi back in the starting lineup?
When will Sam Cosmi return? Dan Quinn and Cosmi offer the latest injury update ahead of Week 6.

Might the Commanders be getting back guard Sam Cosmi this week?
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn was asked Wednesday during his time with the media, regarding the process of Cosmi's return. Cosmi started at right guard all of the 2024 season, before being injured in the playoff win at Detroit. His injury required ACL surgery and he has subsequently missed all of training camp, and the first five games of 2025.
"He did a lot of reps last week," began Quinn. "We practiced him two days because we left, and he stayed back. So, he'll get the full week of practice, he'll work both scout team and with the offense. So, we're not putting any space other than just, man just go play and get your technique right and allow our eyes, his eyes to trust that he's put himself in a good spot with all the work that he's done."
Quinn has now moved on to the next week and realizes he must evaluate anew this week as well. "I'm just going into the week with fresh eyes, like did the walkthrough today, got reps there, he is getting reps in the practice today, so let's just see where it goes. The padded practice tomorrow, that's a big factor. That'll be his first time doing that as well."
The former Texas Longhorn entered the NFL as a right tackle, being drafted in 2021 by Washington at 51 overall. After playing tackle for his first three NFL seasons, he successfully made the transition to right guard in 2024.
TV 7 sports director Scott Abraham caught up with Cosmi in the locker room. Abraham asked Cosmi if he was going to return for Monday night's game against the Bears. Cosmi laughed and actually replied about what he can control. He spoke of his practice with the team last week and his first padded practice coming up on Thursday.
Cosmi spoke of trying to get his central nervous system back in sync during his workouts. The recovering guard said he has been talking with Quinn and GM Adam Peters, understanding the need to compete and communicate thoroughly. Also expressed by Cosmi was that in his opinion, if he was not permitted to return this week against the Bears, he is confident he would then return for the Week 7 contest against NFC East rival the Dallas Cowboys.
Abraham asked Cosmi who would make the decision. Would Cosmi himself make the decision? Cosmi replied, "It's a collective discussion based off of how everything's gone. The progression of everything (is included), so we're just talking through it, taking each day in every single practice, just seeing how it (knee) does, how it feels...I'm pushing it, trying to get as many reps as I can."
