Tague Davis may only be a freshman, but he has already put his fingerprints and touch on the Louisville baseball program.
In doing that, he's one of several contributing factors to the Cardinals' return to Omaha and the College World Series for the first time in five years.
Appearing in 60 games this season, Davis has broken Louisville great Chris Dominguez's near two-decade-long freshman program record for most home runs in a single season, while becoming a consistent bat Dan McDonnell's starting lineup.
Now, Davis looks to continue Louisville’s late-season run with timely swings in Omaha as the Cardinals look for their first CWS title. But as Davis and the Cardinals look to do that, those tuning into the games at Charles Schwab Field may have their ears piqued by his family name and his parents, specifically his dad, former MLB catcher Ben Davis.

Is Tague Davis' dad Ben Davis?
Yes, Tague Davis is the son of former MLB catcher Ben Davis. The elder Davis, of course, was drafted by the San Diego Padres with the No. 2 overall pick in the 1995 MLB Draft out of Malvern Prep in Malvern, Pennsylvania.
Ben Davis is now a color commentator and in-studio analyst for the Philadelphia Phillies on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
"I'm very proud. It is very cool. He was delighted for him and his teammates. Having the chance to go to Omaha is just a thrill," Ben Davis said during NBC Sports Philadelphia's "Phillies Pre-Game Live" on June 9.
"Can't believe he is doing it during his freshman year. Very cool."

The former top two draft pick spent seven years in the big leagues with the Padres, Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox.
He spent the majority of his MLB career with the Padres from 1998 through 2001, where he played 258 of his career 486 games. His best season in San Diego came in 2001, when he appeared in 138 games and hit .239 at the plate with 107 hits, 57 RBIs, 56 runs scored and 11 home runs.
He was traded to the Mariners after the 2001 season. That season, Ben Davis finished with a .998 fielding percentage in 77 games behind the plate while throwing out 44% of runners.
Who is Tague Davis?
Tague Davis is the starting first baseman on the Louisville baseball team, who is also a two-way player for the Cardinals.
He hails from Philadelphia and was a highly touted recruit for the Cardinals out of high school at Malvern Prep. Noted by his Louisville profile page, Tague Davis was ranked as the No. 3 first baseman in the 2024 recruiting class by Prep Baseball Report and the No. 4 player in the state of Pennsylvania by Perfect Game.
The 6-foot-4 left-handed hitter has been an immediate contributor to the Cardinals this season, as he has started 58 of 60 games that he has appeared in, while making three appearances on the mound. He has slugged 18 home runs on the season, setting a new Louisville single-season freshman record.
In the Louisville Super Regional, Tague Davis went 4-for-10 at the plate with two walks. He has seven hits, three walks and two runs scored in the NCAA baseball tournament this season.
"Coach (Dan) McDonnell said this to us, 'We can be a part of something really special.' And I believe we’re doing that as we speak," Tague Davis told The Philadelphia Inquirer this week. "Coming out of Malvern, you want to go to a place that you’ll learn to love the game even more. And Louisville is definitely the spot for me. I’m very fortunate for this opportunity, to be here and to play for these fans, play for the city, and it’s just a lot of fun."
He was named to the Perfect Game All-Freshman first team ahead of the start of the CWS on June 10. He additionally earned All-ACC Third Team and All-ACC Freshman Team honors this season.
