Why Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s power surge signals a career turning point with the Yankees originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

When Jazz Chisholm Jr. blasted his 20th homer of the season in a 6–2 win over the Twins it was the first time in his career he’s hit 20-plus homers in consecutive seasons. More than a line on the stat sheet, that consistency shows how he has matured as a player and hitter.

Chisholm’s power metrics are climbing.

In 2025, his barrel rate is up to 16.7% with a hard-hit rate of 45.7%.  Both metrics are well above MLB averages. He’s producing with precision, not just brute strength. His average exit velocity has ticked higher, showing cleaner, louder contact.

In June, after returning from an oblique injury, he went on a tear, batting .315 and slugging .614, with seven homers and 19 RBIs. That stretch helped vault him into Home Run Derby conversation, which might have been better off left unsaid, but there’s a reason he was asked.

What’s fueling it all?

Increased plate discipline. Manager Aaron Boone credits Chisholm’s surge to better patience at the plate. He’s waiting for strikes, not chasing off-speed stuff, and consistently barreling pitches in the zone.

Combine that sharp approach with his natural athleticism. He’s still one of the fastest, most dynamic defenders in the league and Chisholm has become a multi-dimensional force for the Yankees. He’s no longer just flash and electrifying plays starring on his own in Miami. Chisholm’s emerging as a dependable middle-of-the-order threat in the Yankees loaded lineup.

Hitting 20 homers in back-to-back seasons isn’t common. For Chisholm, who has flirted with it before, it marks a turning point.  He’s beginning to control the power, not just display it.
