Young girls nail it down in Cap-Haïtien Carnival 2026 | Photos

CAP-HAÏTIEN — For three days of carnival in Cap-Haïtien, performers repeated the same costumes and skits — many of them identical to last year’s. Zombies ran through the streets, vampires screamed and royal couples marched hand in hand.
By the third day, many revelers said they were tired of watching the same parade. Around town, residents described this year’s festivities as lacking novelty and charm.
One event, however, stood out.
On Feb. 12, Le Carnaval des Tout-Petits — the Children’s Carnival — brought color and renewed excitement to the streets.
Little girls wearing brightly colored folkloric dresses and glittery makeup danced along the parade route. Others, dressed as princesses, stood in the backs of pickup trucks, waving and blowing kisses as vehicles slowly rolled through the narrow streets of Cap-Haïtien.
Spectators watched in awe, pulling out their phones to capture photos and videos.
Institution Saint-François Xavier, an all-girls Catholic school, organized one of the children’s parades. Students marched from Place d’Armes to their campus, about two-tenths of a mile away.
Here are images from the festivities.
