Fantasy Football: Jahmyr Gibbs tops Jonathan Taylor for best performance all season in wild Giants-Lions Week 12 matchup

If you had any piece of the New York Giants-Detroit Lions matchup in Week 12 in fantasy football, we hope it was RB Jahmyr Gibbs. In what should go down as the wildest games of the week, the Lions lead back narrowly edged out Colts RB Jonathan Taylor for the best single-game performance of the fantasy season.

Gibbs finished the OT win with just under 50 fantasy points (49.9) in half-PPR formats, and it felt like every time you looked back at your TV screen, he was ripping off a huge play. One of said plays was a 69-yard TD rush in extra time to give Detroit a 34-27 lead. Gibbs also had a 49-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter in a game the Lions trailed 27-17 late. He would finish with a robust 26 touches (11 catches) for 264 total yards and three TDs. It feels like just yesterday when fantasy managers were (for some reason) complaining about Gibbs after he busted in two of three games from Week 6-9.

Okay, enough about Gibbs, let's talk about Jameis Winston!

Well, we've got to shout out both teams first for giving us over 1,000 yards of total offense. We almost had eight players go for double-digit fantasy points in the game, which doesn't feel like a lot. The scoring was very condensed for fantasy football. While Gibbs was fantastic, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown also turned in his best performance since Week 2, catching nine of 13 targets for 149 yards and a score (25.4 FP). It was all Gibbs and St. Brown for Detroit.

On the Giants side, Winston turned in an all-time performance for him in what could be the last time we see him play this season. With rookie QB Jaxson Dart expected back next week, Winston saw the writing on the wall and decided to pull out all the stops, making multiple big passes on broken plays. He threw for 366 yards with two TDs and a pick, but also caught a 33-yard TD pass from *rubs eyes* WR Gunner Olszewski. With 32.74 points, Winston has a good chance of finishing Week 12 as the QB1 overall.

Wan'Dale Robinson nearly matched Amon-Ra with nine catches for 156 yards and a score on 14 targets. Both Robinson and St. Brown have good odds to finish among the top-five fantasy wideouts this week. RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. had another strong day despite not finding the end zone. He finished with 23 total touches (three catches) for 130 total yards. RB Devin Singletary saw the goal-line work again but Tracy is getting enough volume to make him a strong RB2/3 option moving forward. We'll see if Dart's return impacts that at all.

Theo Johnson was solid with three catches for 77 yards while Isaiah Hodgins turned in another decent week with two catches on six targets for 42 yards and a TD. Both players could carve out value the rest of the season with or without Dart back. The rookie QB is expected to reel it in when it comes to scrambling, for his own self-preservation.

Both of these teams are going to be fun targets — for and against — in terms of fantasy football scoring. The Giants have dropped six games in a row but are joining the fantasy carnival conversation, as Scott Pianowski puts it. Scott also ranked the Lions as having the best offense for fantasy football. With a few more weeks before the fantasy playoffs, be sure to hone in on players on both sides, specifically some of these Giants skill position players who are more readily available on the waiver wire.
