Jalen Hurts Week 17 grades: Eagles win another Jekyll and Hyde outing

The Eagles survive another Jekyll and Hyde performance, but shouldn't we be weary of that by now?

Jalen Hurts Week 17 grades: Eagles win another Jekyll and Hyde outing

Some of you need to hear this again. It's time we were all honest. Jalen Hurts has all the potential of an elite quarterback, but the Philadelphia Eagles star has another side. We can no longer ignore that or sweep it under the rug.

Time and time again, we've seen him outplay some of the best quarterbacks the NFL offers. He did that in the first half vs. Josh Allen, but there's another Jalen Hurts, that guy we saw during the second half

It's lazy to ridicule him because he is surrounded by elite talent. Most of the greats were. Joe Montana had Jerry Rice. John Elway didn't win a Super Bowl until he was paired with Terrell Davis.

Every NFL quarterback struggles from time to time. We all watched Josh Allen struggle during his first nine offensive drives of the Eagles' 13-12 win over the Buffalo Bills. Still, these struggles and droughts occur too often within Philadelphia's offense.

So, do we celebrate the Jalen Hurts who outplayed Allen for two quarters, or do we criticize the guy who, for the second time this season, failed to complete a single pass during the second half? It's an interesting and necessary conversation.

Jalen Hurts' worst throw of Week 17

Early in Philadelphia's fourth offensive drive, with a little over ten minutes remaining in the second quarter, Hurts missed an opportunity by not getting his feet set.

The result was his inability to get enough steam on a pass to a wide-open DeVonta Smith. Blame Hurts for a miss on that one. He also missed a deep shot to Smith. The weather was bad, but it's a toss we've seen Hurts hit on more than one occasion.

Jalen Hurts' best throws

Here's the Jalen Hurts we love. It didn't take long for him to make up for missing DeVonta Smith early. One play after skipping one short of the target, he threaded one to Number 6 for an 11-yard gain on third and four.

He then raised himself with an even prettier toss. He bought time with his legs, left the pocket, and went deep right to A.J. Brown along the right sideline for a gain of 19 yards on third and ten.

Jalen Hurts' Week 17 report card.

Can we call an incompletion pretty? Heck, we're going for it. Five plays after the aforementioned toss to Brown, he tried to go deep to him again. He dropped that one in the bucket.

That pass fell incomplete, but only because of a pass interference penalty that wasn't called. Hurts again shows promise in so many areas, but he can be wildly inconsistent.

Philadelphia's quarterback was on his way to a passing grade in this one, but that second-half performance can't be ignored. The Eagles survive a Jekyll-and-Hyde performance. Sometimes, that's what good teams do, but we seem to have this conversation about Jalen Hurts and the offense much too often.
