Why did Jaguars' Grant Udinski withdraw from Browns head coach search?

Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive coordinator Grant Udinski has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Cleveland Browns head coaching job.

So why, after going through the initial interview process, did Udinski decide against potentially taking over the Browns?

Well, there's likely a lot of factors in play, but there seem to be two big ones in particular that stand out.

For one, it was reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter that Udinski was given a pay raise for the 2026 season to remain in Jacksonville.

The Jaguars are also giving Udinski the flexibility to remain in the mix for the Buffalo Bills' head coaching opening.

Secondly, perhaps this wasn't the right fit for Udinski. Across the NFL landscape, Udinski is viewed as an up-and-coming future head coach. Chances are, with each passing year, demand for Udinski will only grow, which means more options for him to consider.

We saw now-Bears head coach Ben Johnson take a similar approach in 2024. Rather than taking a head coaching job, he remained with the Lions as their coordinator for another season before joining the Bears.

Regardless of what the reasons were, the Jaguars will be happy to have Udinksi around for another season. He was a big part of the offense's success this past season.
