Sam Darnold will be playing in the biggest game of his life at Super Bowl LX, but his biggest supporter will also be there cheering him on.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has had a resurgence these past two years in the NFL, and now he looks to solidify his legacy forever with a win in Super Bowl LX over the New England Patriots.
As he celebrated on the field last Sunday after winning a razor-thin game against the rival Los Angeles Rams, Darnold was joined on the field with his biggest supporter: his fiancée.
"You did that," she told him after the game as he put an NFC champion on her.
"We did that."
Who is Darnold's partner?
Her name is Katie Hoofnagle. Unlike other athletes who are seen dating pop stars or popular influencers, Hoofnagle is a marketing specialist who worked in North Carolina around the same time Darnold was on the Carolina Panthers.
What was seen as the lowest point in Darnold's professional career might have been the moment his entire life took a turn after meeting Hoofnagle.
After Carolina, he backed up Brock Purdy on the San Francisco 49ers and made the Super Bowl as a backup. He then revived his career as a starter in Minnesota, going 14-3 with the Vikings before landing in Seattle this past offseason, where he is set to be their franchise QB for the foreseeable future.
Hoofnagle, who is originally from the Bay Area and San Francisco, will return to her hometown to see if her future husband can win the biggest game of his life next Sunday.
Darnold proposed to her last summer in California, where they are both from. She will be watching from the stands, hoping that their engagement rings are not the only jewelry he's wearing on their wedding day.
